About
The Douglas Goodfellow Memorial Scholarship is an annual award established to honor Doug’s memory and legacy of perseverance in education. Each year, one graduating senior from Volcano Vista High School is selected to receive a cash award, typically $3,000, to support their pursuit of further education. Eligible educational paths include vocational programs, trade schools, community or junior colleges, four-year universities, or national service programs such as AmeriCorps or City Year.
The scholarship is unique in that it does not require a minimum GPA for consideration, reflecting Doug’s own educational journey and the belief that academic performance alone should not limit future opportunities. Recipients are selected based on two short essays describing their post-graduation educational plans and reviewed by a panel of Doug’s immediate family and close friends. Awards are announced in April and presented at Volcano Vista High School’s annual Honor’s Assembly in May.
Focus
The scholarship is focused on:
Honoring Doug’s memory through an enduring investment in the lives of graduating Volcano Vista High School students.
